Great news, everyone! The argument in the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial case at the U.S. Supreme Court is scheduled for October 7!

Thanks for you support and for passing the video and the www.DontTearMeDown.com website to your friends and family! However, we aren't done yet! The men and women that have put their lives on the line for our freedom should have more say than ANYONE where a memorial should be and how long it should be there. Those that placed the Mojave Memorial Cross may be gone, but its power is still strong. There are so many that know this memorial and understand what it represents. One bozo thinks he "might" drive down that road and "might" see the cross. Well as my dad always says, a "might" is a thing that gets on a chicken's butt. GOD bless AMERICA!

Whats next? No crosses on the older graves at Arlington? Or the Normandy American Cemetery?

If you don't support our freedom and the sacrifices our vetrans made to have it, then leave.

That man and any other person like him. I am certainly not religious, but i find nothing offensive to me. That is his right to find it offensive. It is because of these veterans that this person can make such a claim. If you like your freedoms, thank a vet. Thank You Veterans.

If someone finds this simple (yet powerful) memorial offensive, then they should build one that doesn't offend them. Keep your nose out of other peoples' business and worry about yourself.

It may be his right to find it offensive. Our men and women fight for him to have that right. I find cussing, drinking, and stupidity offensive but I can't stop other people from "enjoying" cussing, drinking, or being stupid. He should not be able to stop the rest of us from going to these momunents to "pay our respects" to the veterans who fought for our country and still fight today. I don't shove my "religion" down anyone's throat but I also find it offensive that alot of people today want to shove their "non-religion" or "different-relion" down mine by removing all crosses and references to God.

For the Veterans that have gone, and those that will follow in their generous footsteps, I give my support to this and other similar memorials. Their service is the reason this Plaintiff has the right to bring this suit, however, he needs to remember that the right wasn't a birthright. Many fought and died for our freedoms. These small tributes should be preserved. Thank you Veterans for all you do!

Brenda,
I am extremely offended by the statement that was made by the Catholic man in Oregon;I am from the state of Oregon as was my son who died July 1st of 2007 in Iraq
severing with the Corps, who by the way was a devout Catholic. My son was one of nine of my family members who served this country, not all severed during war, however six of them were in the corps and one of the six served during peace time,my family served as far back as WWI,WWII and Vietnam. Three of my four bother also served two during peace time one has been to Afghanistan twice and was in Desert Storm. This Memorial would be importent to me even if it didn't represent so many men in my family! All of the men and women this Memorial represents have put their lives on the line for us and others THE LEAST WE SHOULD DO FOR THEM IS PUT UP A CROSS, not only for those who come home but for those who lost brother and sister in arms sometimes literately.

If you can't post this I understand it is long but important to me that someone knows this story!

I believe the the folks that start lawsuits like this one should be have to pay for the expenses of the lawsuit they file. I don't believe the American Taxpayer should foot the bill of this type of travisty.

how could anyone find this offensive? its time that americans started acting like americans. stand up for your men and women in uniform. if this person was to ask a soldier why they give and gave their all, they would probably tell him that they did it for him.

this is dispicable.

i hope this person doesnt find himself on the wrong side of an offended Marine...

If this is a monument to our brave and righteous soldiers then install a non-religious symbol, like a horse or a soldier or something else and problem is solved. This is not a freedom issue (or a disrespect to fallen soldiers) its a separation of church and state issue. A cross is definitely a religious symbol and should not be on public lands. Another interesting argument is that not all the fallen are christian, and would not want a cross to represent their sacrifice. As for the cemetery, those are headstones marking individual graves, not public monuments, here your freedom of expression is a private issue so the headstones will never be changed unless a soldiers family deems it so.

It sounds to me that the memorial was erected by Christian, American Soldiers for all those who would choose to be honored by it. I would guess that the vast majority of our Veterans are not offended by this memorial. In fact, I bet the majority are thankful and grateful for this memorial.

By the way, a cross is a symbol of sacrifice and torture. It represents the sacrifice Christ Jesus made on a cross so anyone could be forgiven for their sins. Our veterans sacrificed their lives so we can enjoy the freedom to worship as we choose. If someone chooses to not worship God, great, that's their loss, but they shouldn't prevent others who wish to worship the living God that helped establish and build the United States of America.

This Country was founded on the backs of Brave people, willing to die for God and Country. If you dont like it, LEAVE!! Go someplace that you dont have to look at our "Religious" Memorials.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord...

God's Blessings on all those that have served and continue to serve in our armed services..

I read that the man offended by this monument is Catholic. I am Catholic and a Veteran, but have NEVER been offended by a cross, regardless of where it stood!!!! I say to him, I am doubly insulted by the fact that you're "offended" by such an expression of love and loyalty to our nation and the people who have fought (and died) for the freedoms we enjoy. If you don't like the monument, simply DON'T LOOK AT IT! You should be ashamed of yourself! Perhaps if that monument were erected in your name or someone you loved who lost his/her life in battle, you would see things differently! THINK ABOUT THAT! And Thank A Veteran that you have the freedom to voice your opinion, even if it is twisted!

Penny, from Oregon

I thank the vet for giving me the freedom to do as I please. I cannot imagine what it would be like without freedom. What a scarifice. Freedom definaely is not free, and many have paid that price for me. How generous...and what a gift. I can thank them. but it simply does not seem to be enough. I can help fight for these memorials that are for them. I think this man from Oregon needs to choke on his what ifs. These are the people that unselfishly gave him the right to chose his religion, and then be offeded by it. He needs to just shut up and go lay down!!!!!! Tough toenails if it offends him. His religion offends me, but I must "deal with it". Put him in a helicopter and drop him off in Afganistan. Better yet..lets trade him for the 23 year old Idaho solder that was taken by the Taliban a few weeks ago. Lets see how "offended" he would be by a cross on "government property" then.

I will agree with tearing down this memorial when the number of Godless secular individuals who wish it torn down exceeds the number of Christian individuals in our Armed Forces.

Our freedom of expression is protected for a reason. That protection exists to protect "offensive" expression. After all, if what everyone expressed was accepted, we wouldn't need to protect it. So at the risk of being offensive. Thank you vets for the love that you showed all of us by being willing to die and bleed and suffer to protect us. We all owe you a debt we cannot repay.

How sad this mans life must be that his heart can't handle the mere thought of possibly seeing a cross that symbolizes the very men and women who fought for his right to complain about something like this. I think we should consider all pitching in to buy him a one way ticket to a country where they have no rights, a place where he would suffer greatly just for voicing his opinion. Do you think he would regret what he started over here and want to come back or do you think he would learn to shut his mouth and appreciate what he has?
Our warriors have suffered and given up enough and shouldn't have to fight to protect something as simple as a memorial that honors them for their heroic behavior.
They did their job and fought for us now let's try to pay them back just a little and fight for them!

I for the life of me can't understand why some people have to complain about something as small as a cross representing the men and women that died giving him the right to do so.Yes it may be on government property but so what the people that gave their lifes that this represents were government employees. RIGHT? Complain about something that really counts. God bless our troops, past, present and future ones..

God Bless our brave men and women that HAVE, DO and will CONTINUE to fight so we can voice an opinion, live in a free country and participant in ridiculous frivolous and stupid lawsuits such as this one.
It is a marker of sacrifice - something this moron obviously knows nothing about. God Bless his Soul as I struggle to.

Why is the name of the man that started this whole mess kept such a secret? If he feels so strongly about it, let him come out publicly and say so. Or is he afraid he'll be driven North to Canada? He wants to live in a free country without paying homage to the men and women who kept this country free.

And why does he care if there is a cross out in the middle of NOWHERE?! Doesn't this person have anything better to do? And shame on the ACLU for supporting this.

To the individual that is "offended" by a cross on public lands...you attend Catholic church right? Why do you go? Do you read a different bible than other Catholics or are you spying on the church like 007? Jesus bestows upon you and every Christian to spread the good news! You cannot be a Christian and want the good news to be covered up. You sir need to evaluate where you stand...either for God or against him. You cant do both.

That man has the right to say whatever ,do whatever he wants. Why because of Veterans,Past, Present and Future.I think he forgot who fought for those Freedoms he enjoy's.
A Veteran.

Could someone post the name and address of the guy who is trying to get rid of the cross? Thanks!

Bobby Hester said...

I agree who is this guy and where does he live, where does he go to church? We need to start a site showing him and his house and his church. Explain why we are offended of him and see what his church thinks about him.

Anonymous said...

I am a vet and I feel that the guy should leave well enough alone and drive somewhere else. I fought in 2 wars and still support the troops when I can and 1 cross is is bad do you want us to tear down the ones in the cematarys I think not so leave it alone and go somewhere else to live like in a hole and stay there so you can't see the cross.

It's our Federal Government that sends our military into harms way to die for us and face our Maker, our Lord. It's the right thing for our Federal Goverment to allow the cross, a symbol of the God we all face upon our death here on earth, to be displayed on Federal land in memory of those who died in service for us.

1) The Declaration of Independence pointed out our inalienable right to the PURSUIT of happiness. It did NOT claim a right to happiness itself, and no one has the “right” to never be offended. Some things in life are going to offend you. Get over it.

2) “Separation of Church and State” is found NOWHERE in our Constitution. It comes from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to a group of Jewish Rabbis who were concerned about the safety of their rights as non-Christian citizens. All the insistence on Separation of Church and State is totally unconstitutional.

God Bless our veterans and the people who support them!

Tell that one guy from Oregon who is "offended" by the memorial that he's damned lucky to be living in Oregon. Our veterans & service men & women are who guarantee his right to live freely in Oregon and have the opportunity to drive through the desert. That memorial is WAY BEYOND PRICELESS!! If he doesn't like it, tell him to move to another country where we don't have to put up with his worthless opinion. Or we could put him a box and send him there. With a million plus hits on the youTube video, we surely out number him.

Greg said...

In the 60s and 70s "we" had a real problem differentiating between the soldiers (our brothers, sisters, mothers, and fathers) and the government policies that we may have agreed or disagreed with.

I thought most of us had gotten past that. A monument doesn't express a government policy supporting religion or decrying it. Memorials are for the SOLDIERS and those who gave us their lives both in years served and literally.

GROW UP, ACLU!

Like the one poster said, if you don't like it, build yourself another one.

Isn't TOLERANCE what a lot of our freedoms are about?!

I have gone to many places in this country and have seen many offensive things. Often all I have to do is turn on my TV or computer to really be offended. Not one time have these offensive things been something that gives hope and encouragement to others. I don't believe a memorial or yet even a cross truly offends anyone. The person who states this is having his own personal crisis which he should address. Therapy would be a much better solution than for the court system to make decisions which would then offend a greater number of people. God bless the USA...including each of those having a personal crisis. They need Gods blessings and prayers most. And thank you to ALL veterans who have protected them and me daily.

No where in the Constitution does it say separation of church and state. It does say that Congress shall not enact any law which prohibits the freedom to believe what we choose. The people who erected this Memorial chose to believe in the cross as a symbol of their faith in Christ and in remembrance of their fallen and living "fellow military people". The cross has long been used to mark the lose of loved ones. The ACLU needs to find real issues to fight for. "We The People" have had enough of their stupidity.

according to the aclu website, frank buono is the respondent in the court case and is also a former park service employee who says he still goes to the cross site and looks at it. i am a navy veteran and am offended by the ACLU. what a bunch of idiots. they must not have too many veterans that are affiliated with their outfit.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but up on the wall in the court rooms behind the judge's bench, does it not say, "In God we Trust"? Is that not a religious reference on government property? If that is not unconstitutional then what makes a cross in the middle of the desert unconstitutional?

Shame on them I hope they change their minds before judgment day!!!! This Oregon man is an embarrassment to the Catholic faith and America. I love God and this country and we all need to thank GOD and our military men and women for our freedoms!!Thank you Teri.
